About

Chris Greuling

Hi, I'm Chris

I've been building web applications since 1998 — yes, that means I survived the browser wars, the Flash era, and whatever we're all collectively pretending didn't happen with Internet Explorer. These days I work primarily in the Laravel ecosystem, which has been my happy place since 2016. Before that, I bounced around PHP, .NET/C#, ColdFusion, Perl, UniData/UniBasic, and a few other technologies I occasionally bring up at dinner to sound interesting.

What I Do

By day (and let's be honest, sometimes by night), I'm the Technical Lead at a small development agency in the Twin Cities. I also freelance, because apparently I don't have enough going on.

How I Work

My superpower — if we're calling it that — is being able to look at a problem from multiple angles before deciding which approach is least likely to cause me regret at 2am. I'm not afraid to be wrong, which is good, because I have been. Many times. The trick is being slightly less wrong each time.

I've also become a pretty solid communicator over the years, which, in the development world, practically makes me a unicorn. My architecture and planning skills are a constant work in progress — but hey, so is every codebase I've ever touched.

Outside the Code

I am, without apology, a Minnesota Timberwolves fan. Yes, I know. I've been through things. I spend the rest of my time with my wife and our dog, doing dinners and holidays with family, and hanging out with good friends. The goal is to keep life simple — which is funny coming from someone who has spent 25+ years making things unnecessarily complex for a living.
